“Doing Business As” (DBA) | Fictitious Business Names in MN

Filing a certificate of assumed name (also commonly referred to as a “fictitious business name” or a “DBA”) enables an individual or entity to engage in business under a particular name that is different from their legal name. Failing to properly file for an assumed name could result in allegations of fraud, so it is particularly important to follow proper procedures with the Secretary of State’s Office. The steps for completing the filing are set forth in Minnesota Statute 333.01, and the proper forms can be accessed at the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website. A small filing fee of $50.00 is required.”
